In 1953 Sir William Lyons set out to prove that the Jaguar XK120 was one of the most capable cars in the world by reaching 174mph/280kmh on the Jabbeke straight in Belgium, driving a modified ‘1952 Jaguar XK120 Competition Roadster’, Chassis 660986.Jaguar Works Driver, Norman Dewis piloted the modified XK120 with a small perspex bubble windscreen, lightweight body and shaped radiator grille and it broke the land speed record for a production car.It became the only Jaguar to hold a land speed record. As a result of this achievment, a small brass plate was included on the dashboard of the XK120 describing the record run.Registered ‘MDU524’, it was a factory race car which had already competed in the 1952 Alpine Trial before being fitted with its streamlined bodywork.After the record run it was retained by the factory and used at Goodwood, Mallory Park, Silverstone, Crystal Palace and Brands Hatch without its streamlined configuration.In 2013 an extensive restoration was completed to MDU524 for a US based client. The restoration was completed in 18 months, in time to be reunited with Driver Norman Dewis at the 2013 Quail Motorsports Gathering and at Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa D’Este.@concorsodeleganza_vde

Imagine two kids digging for buried treasure in their Los Angeles yard back in 1978… and actually striking gold!This is the wild, true story of the legendary Buried Ferrari Dino - a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS that went from stolen to subterranean sensation.It started in October 1974 when plumber Rosendo Cruz bought this gorgeous Dino as a gift for his wife. She only drove it about 500 miles before it vanished one night in December.Four years later, two kids playing in their front yard hit something metallic with their shovels. They flagged down passing deputies, who called in backup… and unearthed a fully buried Ferrari, wrapped in tarpaulin and carpets.Thanks to California’s drought, the dry soil preserved it surprisingly well - minimal rust after years underground.The story exploded in the media. The insurance company (which had paid out the theft claim) owned it now and put it up for auction, displaying it in a warehouse to build hype.Plot twist: it turned out it wasn’t originally a random theft. Investigators uncovered an insurance fraud scheme. Cruz hired “thieves” to hide the car for parts later, but they buried it… and forgot where.The Dino finally went at auction to the highest bidder: car enthusiast and real estate businessman Brad Howard.He had it expertly restored, and decades later - right up to today - he still owns it, driving it regularly to shows, races, and just for the joy of it.
